About American Dream
What?
Designed by Ximena Ochoa, American Dream is a board game that takes players along the winding road to legal status in this country. American and Mexican design motifs are combined to capture the unique blend of cultures that occur in immigrating, and light-hearted visuals are meant to cover up the difficulties this process comes with.
How?
As players follow the path in pursuit of their “American Dream”, they will very quickly realize that it isn’t what it seems. Through drawing cards and performing corresponding actions, players are subject to the similar setbacks and unpredictable nature one may face in the process of immigrating to the U.S.
Why?
Many people have a very warped perception of what the immigration experience truly entails. Through gameplay, people will be able to walk away with a deeper sense of empathy towards those who are facing this process themselves, and how costly it is in both literal and metaphorical ways.
